In the summer of 2003, I was given a print out about the Systematic Buzz Phrase Projector.  Many of you have probably seen it as well.  It struck me as funny because it was both hilarious and true in today's business world.  I grew tired of faxing the sheet to different people and thought it best to create a web page with the Systematic Buzz Phrase Projector built into it so I could simply send the web address to people via e-mail.  The result is buzzphrase.org (notice it is .org and not .com).

I don't know if the following story about the original "projector" is true or even if the person credited with its creation actually exists.  But in case he does, I felt it important to re-print the story below as it was given to me:

"After years of hacking through etymological thickets at the U.S. Public Health Service, a 63-year old official named Phillip Broughton hit upon a sure-fire method of converting frustration into fulfillment (jargonwise).  Euphemistically called the Systematic Buzz Phrase Projector, Broughton's system employs a lexicon of 30 carefully chosen 'buzzwords.'

"No one will have the remotest idea of what you're talking about," says Broughton.  "But the important thing is that they're not about to admit it."

Now on to the fun part:

The procedure is simple.  Think of any number 000 through 999 (you literally have 1,000 numbers to choose from), then select the corresponding buzzword from each of the three columns below.  You will select the the first digit in your number from the first drop-down menu, the second digit from the second drop-down menu, and the third digit from the third drop-down menu.  The combination of the three buzzwords from the drop-down menus will create your new "buzzphrase."

For example, the number 257 produces "systemized logistical projection," a phrase that can be dropped into virtually any report with that ring of decisive, knowledgeable authority.  Remember, if you select a one or two digit number, substitute a "0" for the missing digit (i.e. the number 34 would be 034 and the number 6 would be 006).

Use the following drop down menus to find the digits you need from the three columns and you will then see the resulting new buzz phrase.  Be sure to let us know if you actually use your new buzz phrase in the real world and how it went by using the contact link at the top of the page!

Step 1:  Pick any number 000 through 999

Step 2:  Find the corresponding digits for your number from the three columns below and find your new buzz phrase!
